Zanko wrote:Oh man getting us 3 together, with a few beers I think we would have a hell of a discussion!! The movie the "Memphis Belle" was entertaining I agree. Next time one of the B-17's that tour the U.S. give flights here in Arizona I am defitnely going to pay for the flight. Good stuff guys I have enjoyed everyone's posts here very much. I think I could talk about this subject for weeks hehe .
I'm in on both counts...beer and the B-17 flight.

A friend of mine visits Oshkosh each year. I must ask him whether they have B-17 flips. I want to ride in the tail gunner bubble!! :P
The fishing was so good I thought I was there yesterday.

I used to frequent an army surplus store in La Mirada, CA.
I'm a surplus store groupie.
This place was on the corner of La Mirada and Valley Veiw. If it's still there, you NEED to stop.
Besides buying drill bits and broken files by the pound instead of by the piece, the normal camp gear and tents, they actually had army surplus!
There is a B-17 belly turret laying on the floor. A rocket engine from a Saturn 5 in the back yard, Tomahawk motors, guidance systems, artic weather gear, just all sorts of shit!

I love the SR-71. No finer airplane ever made!
They used to have one sitting right on the other side of the freeway fence outside of San Bernardino. You could just walk right up to it and almost put your hand on it.
She looked like a sad bird after she was removed from service. She looked like an old race horse. There was NO discuising heritage though. London to New York in under three hours. The girl was fast!

The story of the run across Libya is epic and a story told on TV by the guys who made it. Epic story!
The story told on TV was they made the turn over Libya and threw the throttle and the next thing they knew they were over Isreal. Fast MF's!
No plane has ever flown faster. This for a plane that was designed and built in the early '60's.

All this said, my favorite plane is still the C-47. It's just classic. I love the outline of this airplane.
There are two re-habbed 47's that fly to Catalina Island everyday, twice a day to carry supplies. They used to turn right over my house to make the approach to Long Beach Airport.
They lumbered along. Slow and graceful. Easy pickin's for a gun or rocket.
They earned their keep...[/b]

Great story.

Around 15 years ago my friends father used to keep up his pilots licence, he used to fly gliders and light aircraft from a local club. He also used to build planes in the garage below his house, I could be wrong here but I'm 80% sure he built a replica Komet. I can remember seeing it when going up to my friends house and asking him what it was.
